Franklin Hudson: 'The Brasses of Northamptonshire', London, Thomas McLean, 1853, 1st edition, 94 lithograph plates printed in grey, gold and black (of which 20 double page/folding), folio, original blindstamped cloth gilt (slightly worn), rebacked retaining orig. backstrip, Rugby School armorial bookplate "L.S. Schol: Rugbirns: Biblioth." to front pastedown, with another bookplate beneath of Matthew Holbeche Bloxam (1805-1888), native of Rugby, a Warwickshire antiquary and amateur archeologist, and author of a popular guide to Gothic architecture. He was the original source of the legend of William Webb Ellis' invention of the game of Rugby football
