Certificates in Favour of Fitzstrathern
A volume of legal certificates relating to the genealogical career of William Henry Augustus Strathern, including endorsements issued by Charles, Marquis of Queensberry, the Earl of Oxford and Mortimer, Reverend John Lee, Rector of the University of St. Andrews, various professors at the University of Edinburgh and others, dated 1820-27, bound in splendid full gilt-tooled deep blue Morocco, with title in gilt to upper cover, 8vo; a letter from Fitzstrathern addressed to Miss Hailton, "My Dear Betsy" at Trinity Crescent, Edinburgh, inserted loose; the front endpapers curiously embellished with numismatic cuttings; together with a selection of further titles, including Hawney's Compleat Art of Measuring (London, 1717), Thomson's Interest Tables (London, 1833), Advocat's Privileges of the Royal Burrows Edinburgh, 1707) and a book of Sermons and Homilies with ownership inscription of "Mr James Gray, of the Sloope Betsy of Kincardine, 1824" (7)
