(Ukiyo-e.) Kitagawa Utamaro (illustrator, Japanese, 1753-1806). ‘Ehon mushi erami [Picture book of Selected Insects]’, Tokyo, Okura Shoten, 1892. Vol 1 (of 2) Concertina binding. Original card covers with paper title label affixed to front. A scarce reprint of the original 1788 first edition. The book is a collection of ‘Kyoka’ (literally ‘crazy verse’) illustrated by Kitagawa Utamaro. Each double page contains a printed illustration of a plant and insects (or other small creatures), alongside two Kyoka poems.
