A SAFAVID AMULETIC PRAYER SCROLL ON VELLUM, PERSIA, 17TH - 18TH CENTURY
An amuletic prayer scroll from Safavid Persia, dating to the 17th or 18th century. Executed on a vellum, this elongated manuscript is penned in elegant black naskh script with gold embellishments and ruled borders throughout. The opening features a finely illuminated headpiece (_unwan) in vibrant blue, gold, and red pigments, displaying floral arabesques. The scroll contains a series of protective and devotional invocations. The text includes invocations to the Divine Names, QurÕanic verses, and prayers designed to guard the bearer from misfortune and illness.
