A CHINESE PORCELAIN DOUCAI 'MYTHICAL BEAST' BOWL, YONGZHENG MARK. -
A finely potted porcelain bowl with deep, rounded sides rising from a straight foot to a slightly flared rim. The exterior is decorated in the doucai technique, featuring underglaze cobalt blue outlines filled with iron-red, green, and yellow enamels. The design comprises a zigzag chevron band below the rim, above eight large petal-shaped medallions. Four medallions contain pairs of stylised chilong dragons in iron-red and green, alternating with four medallions of formal scrolling foliage. The lower body is encircled by a border of overlapping lotus petals above a scrolling wave band at the foot. The interior features a central medallion depicting two mythical sea beasts, one in yellow and one in iron-red, amidst green and blue crashing waves centred by a jagged rock. The inner rim is finished with a delicate continuous floral and ruyi scroll. The base bears a six-character reign mark in underglaze blue within a double circle: Da Qing Yongzheng Nian Zhi (Made during the Yongzheng reign of the Great Qing dynasty).
