AN EDWARDIAN SILVER REPRODUCTION OF THE TUDOR HOLMS CUP. Of font shape with a raised and chased circular bowl, bearing the Latin inscription 'Benedictus deus im dona suis ame' (Blessed be God for his gifts. Amen) in Lombardic letters around the rim, over fish scale patterned sides and two graduated rows of honeycomb facets on the underbelly, on a pedestal base of fluted shaft and concave base, terminating in oval bosses and a plain circular foot ring. Hallmarked George Nathan & Ridley Hayes, Chester, 1902. Height 10.5cm x Diameter 12cm, Weight 11ozt. The original Tudor Cup sold at Christie's in 1901 for £4,100, the highest price ever paid for a piece of silver at the time.
Stands firm on its base, general handling wear and polish residue. Presents well.
