More Information

The paint surface shows fine craquelure throughout with more obvious craquelure visible in the centre of the picture where the clouds meet the horizon. There is a diagonal scuff approximately 12cm long to the upper left corner. Examination under UV reveals evidence of minor retouching. The paint surface is very dirty and would benefit from cleaning. The frame shows slightly open joints to the corners, some cracks and small losses to the moulded details, and evidence of overpainting. The top edge of the frame shows areas of white residue, which appear quite thick in places. The top left corner of the frame shows evidence of some form of packing between the canvas and the frame.
