Heavy Good Quality French Louis XVI Style Gilt Brass Coffee Table Base
A single rectangular table base executed in the French Louis XVI style, constructed from cast brass or gilt metal. The design features a rectangular frame intended to support a tabletop (absent), decorated along the perimeter with a continuous, repetitive egg-and-dart or scrolling motif. The frame is supported by two heavily decorated columnar pedestals connected by a substantial fluted central stretcher bar. Each pedestal terminates in two scrolled legs adorned with elaborate cast acanthus leaf and foliate relief. The overall construction is consistent with bases designed for coffee tables, often paired with marble or onyx tops as seen in comparable market examples. No visible manufacturer's marks or inscriptions were found.
