VAN CLEEF & ARPELS: A RARE AND COLLECTIBLE CORAL AND DIAMOND DEMI-PARURE 'ROSE DE NOËL', CIRCA 1975 Comprising a brooch designed as a flowerhead, with carved white coral petals, set to the centre with a cluster of brilliant-cut diamonds; together with a pair of matching earclips, all mounted in 18K gold, signed VCA, numbered, with maker's mark 'VCA', French assay marks, with maker's pouches, brooch length 5.3cm, earclips 3.1cm **Prospective buyers are advised that several countries prohibit the importation of items containing materials from endangered species, such as coral. Therefore, buyers should familiarise themselves with relevant customs regulations before bidding if they plan to import this lot into another country. Renowned for its intricate and ornate portrayal of the natural world, Van Cleef & Arpels has consistently drawn inspiration from the elegance, allure, and vibrant hues of nature since its inception in 1906. From its inaugural floral masterpiece, the daisy clip crafted in 1907, to its extensive array of floral-inspired jewellery, the Maison has curated an impressive collection. Whether presented as a clustered bouquet, meticulously aligned in rows, or showcased as a solitary bloom, flowers and the broader spectrum of nature have perpetually captivated the Maison's attention. The magnificent and enduring designs of the Rose de Noël collection, introduced in 1970, have been revisited numerous times as a tribute to the exquisite form, balance, hues, and curves of the glorious winter-blooming flower. Dedicated to Christmas roses that flourish in the depths of winter like promises of happiness, every piece features tailored heart-shaped petals fused with the brilliance of diamonds and precious metals, each stone possessing its own unique charm and variations in colour. The collection symbolizes beauty and romance, evoking a sense of joy and vitality. Van Cleef & Arpels consistently captures the essence of the winter blossom, skilfully arranging its petals in a harmonious manner that accentuates the brilliance and hues of the gemstones; each delicately rounded petal overlapping with precision to create a dimensionality that mirrors the fluidity of nature in bloom. Among its most devoted collectors, the Rose de Noël has found a natural home in royal wardrobes. Queen Máxima of the Netherlands and Princess Caroline of Monaco are both known admirers of the collection, having been seen wearing pieces at public engagements; most notably Princess Caroline at the reception following the unveiling of the bust of Empress Eugénie at the Palais Princier in 2021. Her affinity with the Maison carries a particular resonance, given that her mother, Grace Kelly, built one of the most celebrated relationships in jewellery history with Van Cleef & Arpels, earning the house its title of Official Supplier to the Principality of Monaco in 1956. Following Grace Kelly's passing, much of her Van Cleef & Arpels collection passed to Princess Caroline, making her not only an heir to her mother's jewels but to the spirit of elegance they have always embodied.
