ALBUQUERQUE: A FINE DIAMOND BROOCH, FRENCH, CIRCA 1955 Of sweeping foliate spray design, the central ribbon-scroll motif pavé-set throughout with brilliant-cut diamonds, between graduated channelled bands set with baguette-cut diamonds, to a cascade of graduating marquise-shaped diamond leaf terminals to the lower section with a brilliant-cut diamond highlight, the upper scroll decorated with a fringe of brilliant-cut diamonds, mounted in platinum and 18K gold, diamonds approximately 8.00cts total, signed 'Albuquerque, Paris Monte-Carlo', numbered '252', with maker's mark, French assay marks, with case, length 6.3cm Albuquerque was a respected French fine jewellery house of the 20th century, operating between Paris and Monte-Carlo, catering to wealthy international clientele. He sits in that fascinating category of houses such as Ostertag, M. Gérard or Marzo, that operated at the highest level but remain less publicised than the grand maisons.
