Marc Chagall "Night of Venice" Very Rare Limited Edition
12663 - Very rare limited edition of Marc Chagall's sketch for "Night of Venice". This edition was published as a very low edition of only 50 copies worldwide, this being numbered in the publishers embossed frank 17/50 lower left. Signed in the plate. Accompanied with a certificate of authentication, signed by the "Master Printer". It was printed on decal edged paper and is in exceptional condition. Sketch for 'Night of Vence' was painted by Chagall between 1952 and 1956 and, like many of his creations, lay on his easel and was worked and re-worked over several years. The bird and flowers which appear in so many of his paintings are shown against the unusually-coloured grey background and the hill of the nearby romantic village of St Paul de Vence, where Chagall was eventually buried when he died in 1985 at the age of 98, after living there for almost 20 years. .
