Nottingham Bear - A salt-glazed stoneware jug/pot in the form of a brown bear. Made in Nottingham in the 18th century. 10 1/2'' high. Jugs such as these celebrated the sport of bear-baiting, which was a popular form of entertainment in England from the Elizabethan period until it was banned in the 19th century.
