An illuminated Arabic manuscript of Ashar al-Kawakib (ÒPoems of the StarsÓ), dating to the 16thÐ17th century. This fine collection of Arabic poetry is presented in two-column format, elegantly penned in black ink with rubrication in red, and highlighted with gold and polychrome ornamentation.
The manuscript opens with a spectacular illuminated headpiece featuring floral and geometric motifs in vibrant blue, red, green, and gold, framed by a decorated border. The poetic verses, written in a flowing naskh or nasta_l_q script.
