1961 Velocette MSS 500cc Scrambler, 499cc. Registration number not registered. Frame number 1139/35. Engine number MSS 12979S. Gearbox number 12-2540S.
There is no paperwork with this lot.
Introduced in 1954 the Velocette Scrambler was based very much on the road going Venom with an all alloy competition engine with big-valve Venom-spec internals, 12 prefix gearbox, Amal carburettor and BTH TT magneto. It used alloy mudguards, a crankcase undershield and all the lighting equipment was removed.
In 1958 a new triangulated rear subframe was introduced, replacing the standard adjustable frame. The new frame numbers started at 1001/35, making this machine the 139th built. It remained as a listed item up until 1963 from when it was only a special order, the last being built in 1969. The vast majority went for export to the USA.
This example has been restored on alloy rims and unused for many years being dry stored with three other bikes on offer today. It will require some light recommissioning.
