Five titles on Africa, including J.W. Gregory: 'The Great Rift Valley. Being the Narrative of a Journey to Mount Kenya and Lake Baringo with some account of the geology, natural history, anthropology, and future prospects of British East Africa', London, John Murray, 1896, 1st edition, coloured frontispiece, 20 full-page plates, 23 illustrations in text, & 2 folding maps complete, xxii, 422pp + [2]pp adverts at end, contemporary green cloth, gilt lettering to spine, "Bickers" in gilt at foot of spine (appears to be an original variant binding as issued, another copy traced in same binding as here). Gregory's important exploration expedition in the hitherto unknown highland regions of Mt. Kenya. In five months, he completed scientific observations in fields ranging from structural geology and physical geography to anthropology, and from mountaineering and glacial geology to the malarial parasites.
