Property of a lady - Anne Clark (19th century, nee Anne Fenn) - SCENES AND VIEWS OF INDIA - a small album of 20 watercolours with 2 additional watercolours by a different hand at end, all with manuscript titles, each 2.9 by 4.4ins. (7.3 by 11.2cms.), the album housed in it's original embossed card case with a further watercolour to front cover and inscribed in ink to reverse 'Sketches in the Himalaya for James Fenn Clark, with the affectionate love of his mother. October 1, 1836'. Footnote - Anne Clark was the wife of Hezekiah Clark, senior surgeon of the Honourable East India Company Service and later the Bengal Medical Service. They lived at Government House, Calcutta from circa 1823 to the late 1840's. Anne Fenn was reputedly the first and favourite pupil of the artist Henry Gastineau (1791-1876), and a friend of David Roberts RA (1796-1864). Provenance - by direct family descent.
