A FRENCH NAPOLEONIC PERIOD INFANTRY OFFICER'S SWORD AND SCABBARD. With a 72 cm curved blade with pointed tip, broad fuller and 22.5 cm blued section with gilt engraved trophies and foliate designs. With a gilt handle with short quillon, elongated oval langets and stirrup type guard with central ornament. Chequered ebony grip and domed pommel. In a black leather scabbard with gilt mounts. Marked NK towards the grip, possibly for Nicholas Kichoff of Solingen. Provenance Jemswords, Taunton.
Dents to lower end of scabbard, slight nibbles in the edge of the blade, very slight bend in tip. Generally a very attractive example. Sometime refinished in places.
