A GEORGE III SILVER LIDDED TANKARD
probably by William Collings, London 1778, of baluster form, the hinged domed cover with scroll-form thumbpiece, S-scroll handle with heart-shaped terminal, now chased with flowers, fruit and C-scrolls. 18.5cm high, 22.1 troy ounces
Well marked to the cover and base. The maker's mark overstriking. The vacant cartouche has been erased. A tiny crease in the cartouche due to thinning. The interior gilded. Stands upright and does not rock. The hinge is in good order and the cover closes well.
