German violin by and labelled Copy of Nicolas Amati, Made by Ernst Heinrich Roth, Germany, also stamped Ernst Heinrich Roth, Markneukirchen, C.1300 to the inner back above the label, the one piece back of very faint irregular medium curl with similar wood to the sides, the head of faint medium curl, the table of a fine width grain slightly widening to the flanks and the varnish of a light reddish-brown colour on a golden ground, 14 3/16", 36cm
