An American Bowie knife, possibly Civil War period. With wood coffin handle (probably later), skull and crossbones mark to the ricasso, blade L26.8cm, total L37cm. Former collection of the vendor's great uncle who was one of the few survivors of the Battle of the Somme and purportedly used this knife during that battle.
