The Dam Busters - 617 Squadron - Royal Air Force. (Dambusters) 44th Anniversary of the Dams Raid commemorative cover, 17th May 1987. Signed on reverse by Harvey Alexander Weeks. (1). Harvey Alexander Weeks was born in Chilliwack, Canada in 1919. He joined the RCAF and trained as a Rear Gunner, before joining 97 Squadron at Woodhall Spa in 1942, completing almost 30 operations. In March 1943 he joined the Dambusters Squadron on their "special and dangerous mission" alongside one of his earlier training colleagues in Canada, Sgt. Jimmy Clay, Bomb Aimer. On the raid Lancaster AJ-W ("Willie") was piloted by Flt. Lieut. Les Munro. They were in the Second Wave of Lancasters. AJ-W was hit by Flak on the outward flight over Holland, damaging the fuselage and Rear Gunner Harvey Weeks intercom, and he became isolated from the rest of the crew. Wireless Operator, Percy Pigeon eventually managed to crawl along the length of the damaged fuselage, confirming that he was OK. AJ-W was forced to return to base with their Upkeep Mine still intact. The crew all survived. After the War, Weeks returned to Canada. He died in Chilliwack, British Columbia in 1992.
