A SALAMPASU KNIFE AND SCABBARD FROM SOUTHERN ZAIRE. The 45 cm blade of irregular outline with pointed tip, central spine and broad fuller. On a finely carved wooden handle with nail decoration. In an elaborate scabbard with woven decoration. 62 cm. "The knife was an integral part of the dance costume worn by the tutors of Salampasu boys during initiation rites".
Some marking and slight damage to the scabbard. Collection number to both parts.
