Born Dale Collins was born in a Bristol postcode from a Peasedown St John council estate 7 miles to the south of historic Bath. It was here he first saw graffiti on the garage blocks at the age of 10, in 1984 and then started graffiti at the age of 13. Dale's work originally came from his experiences of a challenging environment and in his work he openly expressed his fears and explored his battles - both with himself and the world around him - under the telling moniker of Vermin his work was beginning to get recognised but was halted by being sectioned under the Mental Health Act in 1999. Stepping out into the light as Dale DvNM Collins, Vermin still retained from his previous incarnation, Dale's spiked, awkward letterforms and harsh messages about mental illness and how it is treated subsided into the deeply beautiful textured surfaces of contemporary abstract bodies of work. The energy is still there, but it has a new-found purpose and focus.
