An unusual Ligurian Italian finely embroidered 19th century sampler. Worked with a verse below of row of the alphabet and three rows of motifs of birds flowers and animals. The verse written in the Ligurian regional dialect, hard to translate accurately; “Maiden, may you have the hero who does not despair, but through virtue renders steadfast the heart”, 47.5cm wide x 35cm high. Condition, there are a few stains, one noticeably on the top row, centre of motifs, there is also some fading.
