An Islamic Mamluk Style Gold Inlaid Metal Quran Stand (Rehal), 19th Century - This folding X-frame book stand, commonly known as a *rehal* or *kursi*, is crafted in an elaborate Islamic Mamluk style. It is constructed from a dark metal, likely iron or steel, featuring extensive inlay or overlay of a contrasting gold. The surface is richly decorated with intricate arabesque and floral patterns alongside prominent panels of Arabic calligraphy. Several sections feature script, including a central cartouche on the upper panel which appears to render 'Allah' (الله), and an arch-shaped top panel and side uprights likely containing religious verses, such as the 'Bismillah' (بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم - In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful) or other devotional texts.

L: Approximately 36.5cm

More Information

The stand exhibits a dark, aged patina, with visible surface wear and minor losses to the inlay or overlay consistent with its age. Overall, it appears to be in good antique condition.
