A hand carved wood tiger head mask with layers of patinated polychrome decoration, modelled with pointed ears and circular bulging eyes, above a wide open 'cheshire cat' toothed grin, hollowed out interior, Terai district, Southern Nepal, late 19th/early 20th century, 31.5 by 24.5cm (2) Note: Tigers, a real threat to South Nepalese villages, have been incarnated through wearable masks or mounted on posts, functioning as deterrents.
