Two volumes on the East Anglian artist Harry Becker (1865–1928), both by David Thompson, comprising 'Becker', Lavenham, The Wildlife Art Gallery, 2002, 1st edition, 1st impression, 128pp, illustrated in colour and b/w throughout, 4to, 29.5 x 24.5cm, original cloth gilt, dust wrapper, 'Harry Becker (1865-1928)', Ipswich Borough Council, 1993, 1st/1st, 48pp, illustrations, orig. pictorial wraps, exhibition card loosely inserted; plus Michael Jaffé: 'Van Dyck's Antwerp Sketchbook', London, Macdonald, 1966, 1st/1st, 2 volumes, vol I frontis + 171 plates, vol II 181 plates, 4to (29.5 x 24cm), original cloth gilt. Harry Becker was actually christened Henry Otto Becker but interestingly enrolled in the 3 year course at the Antwerp National Academy as Hendrick Becker when he was just 14 years old. It was his time in Antwerp that seems to have instilled a love of the Dutch and particularly the farm labourer, and this was a theme he returned to time and time again in the following years. (4)
