A Hungarian electroplated lidded tankard. Tapering cylindrical with reeded skirt foot; the body with repousée and chased decoration to upper and lower sections depicting, winged putti and mythical birds within scrolling foliage. The centre with three circular cartouches depicting a winged putto and male and female warrior figures. Central engraved inscription reading 'Toldalagy. Mihaly Mihalcz Ersebet Ano. 1623'. the scrolling handle with caryatid above scrolling terminal to base. Lacking thumbpiece. The slightly domed, stepped, hinged cover with later cast foliate finial. The base with applied coin; maker's mark AF and scratch number. Traces of other marks - rubbed. 29.5cm high. Note a near identical tankard (with differing finial) is illustrated as one in a series of stamps. A similar silver tankard is recorded by Milhaly Toldalaghy in 'The collection is known as Hungarian Goldsmiths' Art circa 1970
