Thomas Kelly was born in Stratford London on the 14th of January 1889. He joined the Royal Navy on the 25th March 1907. He served as a Stoker on various ships, and was discharged to the Royal Fleet Reserve on the 23rd March 1912.

When the Great War broke out he was re mobilised on the 2nd of August 1914 and joined Hawke Battalion of the Royal Naval Division.

He was taken prisoner at Antwrep on the 9th of Ocotber 1914 and interneted in Holland until the end of the Great War.

He was disagreed in 1919.
