WW2 RAF Taylor Buoyancy Suit. A fair example of an original RAF Taylor buoyancy suit used by RAF aircrews from the mid war period onwards. Often associated with RAF air gunners which used these suits commonly in isolated turrets in the rear of heavy bombers etc. The suit designed to no only keep the airmen warm, but also afloat in water as no mae west weas intended to be worn with the suit. Constructed in a yellow, heavy cotton material with an off set frontal zipper and two main leg zips. The cuffs also retain the zips and a fly is present, however this one has lost its puller. Side waist belts and buckles for adjustment with a large stand up collar and internal brace system to aid the wearer in supporting a considerably heavy item of clothing. Inside a good clear large AM stamp and label, stating the suit to be of a size 'Large' and the stores code of 22C/740. Some of the press stud fittings have corrosion or broken off and the zips are a bit stiff but function correctly. Some age related marks but all in all good condition and will suit an RAF mannequin set up.
