Star Lot: 'Fergus O'Ryan RHA (1911-1989)' A wonderful 'Fergus O'Ryan RHA (1911-1989)' oil on board painting. Features a waterfall scene by a bridge. This scene beautifully reflects O’Ryan’s sensitivity to atmosphere and his mastery of tonal harmony. Rendered in a naturalistic colour palette with soft sage, moss greens, earthy umbers, warm ochres, cool blues and lilacs. Portrays broad fluid brushstrokes creating a sense of movement and texture. Signed lower right. Titled to verso. Housed in a black wooden gilt frame.

'Fergus O'Ryan RHA (1910-1989) is a well known artist with works sold into the thousands.
Born in Limerick in 1911, Fergus O’Ryan began his art training at the Limerick School of Art be-fore attending the Dublin Metropolitan School of Art (now the National College of Art and De-sign). He exhibited for the first time at the Royal Hibernian Academy at the age of 27 and annually thereafter until 1984. He became a full member of the academy in 1960. Known for his city-scapes, O’Ryan also designed posters for the entertainment company Rank Organization and was appointed art director at the Theatre Royal, Dublin, in 1943. In addition, O’Ryan illustrated publications and books including Stone Mad by Seamus Murphy in 1949 and Patricia Lynch's Tales of Irish Enchantment in 1952. He held numerous solo shows at the Victor Waddington Galleries between 1950 and 1954. In 1956, O’Ryan was awarded the Douglas Hyde Gold Medal at the Oireachtas Exhibition, Dublin. His works can be found in private and public collections including the Hugh Lane Gallery and Crawford Municipal Gallery, Cork.
