A very fine quality circa 1900 gold half hunter pocket watch having a white enamel dial with Roman numerals, blued hands and subsidiary seconds. The high jewel count movement jewelled to the centre, full Geneva escapement, split compensation balance with Breguet over coil hairspring and kidney shaped stud. End stones to lever and escape wheel, adjustable pallets, wolf tooth winding and the whole protected by a glazed cover. The case signed 'Marius LeCoultre Rue Bonivard 8 Geneve' numbered 3244, 49mm, 103.6g
Marius LeCoultre, a watchmaker and retailer located in Geneva, founded his own company in 1848. He specialized in unusual and high quality watches, developed a retrograde date system and was awarded an honourable mention during the Geneva Chronometer Contest in 1887. At the Chicago Universal Exhibition in 1893 he exhibited complicated and precision timepieces.
