£10,000
A painted and carved ship's figurehead by Charles Moore. Princess Alexandra Rose, circa 1970, with a gilt painted crown and holding a rose, height 103cm. The figurehead does not appear to be signed or monogrammed. It was commissioned by the vendor's parents directly from Charles Moore in St Just in Roseland in the early 1970s. It is carved wood (pine?) and is quite heavy, but was fixed to the wall in the vendor's dining room. The paint appears to be the original finish, however, the vendor remembers her mother being unhappy with the original painting of the face, by Charles Moore's wife, and having it redone. There is a little paint loss, and one of the glued sections of pine is now beginning to separate a little.
