A Late-Victorian or Edwardian Adjustable Mahogany Book Slide
An antique adjustable book slide constructed of dark hardwood, likely mahogany, featuring brass fittings. The design exhibits characteristics of the late-Victorian or Edwardian period, utilizing deeply carved decorative elements. The two upright bookends are scalloped along the top edge and feature circular rosette carvings at the apex. Below the handle cutouts, square panels contain detailed foliate or floral carvings. The adjustable base includes heavy, repeating scroll carving along the front edge. The item is marked with the impressed word "PATENT" into the wood near the brass hinge of one support, indicating a registered design.
