* John Cashel Hoey was born at Dundalk, Co. Louth, 1827. He was educated at St. Patrick's College, Armagh, and was on of the principal writers, for 'The Nation,' and later sub-editor of the Dublin Review. He was later secretary to the Agent-General for Victoria, appointed by Gavan Duffy, and later to Agent-General for Melbourne.
