A large bronze 17th century Mortar, probably English, of typical waisted form, plain including slight horizontal line divisions, significant wear from use and consistent with age, the base lightly inscribed probably later, 21cm high, 23cm diameter at rim.

(Marks inscribed include variously ‘WR/DC WYLLIE WHITE DRC WH??? FP’).

These mortars were made over a long time frame. Most are generally ascribed to the 17th century, however it may prove to be 16th century or later.
