A Trio of Decorative Bone China Plates including a John Gould Barn Owl Illustration
A trio of English decorative bone china plates. The group comprises a circular plate featuring a naturalist illustration of a barn owl and chicks after John Gould (1804-1881), and two scalloped-edge plates with polychrome depictions of cherubs and celestial motifs. The owl plate is marked on the reverse in blue with the text Barn Owl John Gould 1804-1881 and bears a crown mark above the words BONE CHINA ENGLAND. All pieces feature gilt-finished rims. The collection is housed in a blue presentation box with a Certificate of Authenticity for the Penwith Series First, design Penpol Creek, Hayle, Cornwall, identifying it as plate number 130 of a limited edition of 1,000 painted by Elisabeth Foster, dated 1990.
