Bessy Bedlam, a brown filly foaled 1825 by Filho da Puta out of Lunatic, the latter bred in 1818 by Mr Ellis, got by Prime Minister, by Shuttle, out of Offa's Dyke dam, by Beningborough etc. She was owned by Colonel King. (General Stud Book, vol III, 1832, page 254)
Her winning performances included:
1827: Malton: Won £80 in her maiden race for 2-year olds;
Beverly: 100 sovereigns
Doncaster: won £520 stakes at 5-1
Lincoln: won 100 sovereigns at 7-4
1828: York, Spring meeting, won the Shorts at 50 guineas
York, Summer meeting, won a sweep of 160 sovereigns
Doncaster: unplaced in the St. Leger won by the Colonel
Doncaster: Summer meeting, won the filly stakes for 180 sovereigns over the Leger course
Lincoln: won the Gold Cup
1829: York, Spring, won 300 guineas stakes
1830: Beverley: won the Gold Cup over 2 miles
