A RARE CHARLES II PEWTER FLAT-LID DOUBLE-BANDED FLAGON, WIGAN, CIRCA 1680. The straight-sided drum with two fairly broad fillets, and splayed footrim, the lid with front pierced denticulations, ram's horn thumbpiece and hollow handle with cut-card decoration below hinge lug and with boot heel terminal, indistinct maker's mark inside base, later inscribed 'AD 1588' to front centre of drum, height 17.5cm

The touchmark appears to be diamond shape and may refer to one of the John Fords of Wigan
