NINETEENTH CENTURY ANGLO INDIAN HEAVILY CARVED AND DARK STAINED HARDWOOD DAVENPORT DESK, the shaped back with figural roundel above five short drawers and a pigeon hole, set above a sloping writing surface with serpentine front and later covered in burgundy hide, inclosing two short drawers and a pigeon hole above a faux drawer front panel, raised on a base with figural carved arch top panel and entwined cobra pattern front supports and lion mask capped paw feet, the right side with a panel door enclosing four drawers to the interior and ‘secret’ side drawer above, the whole, including the back, well carved with a profusion of scrolling foliage and stylised flowerheads, 54 ¾” (139cm) high, 27” x 29 ½” (68.6cm x 74.9cm)
