Distinguished Flying Cross group mounted as worn - DFC dated 1945 with original case, 1939-45 Star with cased Bomber Command clasp, France & Germany Star, War Medal. Awarded to 152039 F/Lt Roy Charles Harvey RAFVR. Served 5 Group, Bomber Command, No 9 Squadron. Citation as follows 'This officer has taken part, as Navigator, in many sorties, including two attacks on the Battleship "Tirpitz". These two trips, together with the third which necessitated a journey to a Russian Base, all called for the highest qualities of navigation, and these have been consistently displayed by F/O Harvey. The journey to Russia was safely made by F/O Harvey and crew, but they were unable to take part in the actual attack. In the decisive attack on the ship, F/O Harvey was Navigator to the leader of the Squadron, and his efforts played no small part in ensuring the success of the operation. On this occasion the A.R.I. 5083 was unserviceable from the commencement of the trip. Nevertheless F/O Harvey navigated with great accuracy, arriving at the rendezvous point at he target on time, and then making the return journey to a base in Scotland in very bad weather. He has always shown great keenness to operate and his courage and determination, together with his great navigational skill have made him an invaluable member of his crew'. Dated 21/11/1944. He flew 31 sorties (the final Tirpitz raid was his 24th). The lot contains his Logbooks with note the Tirpitz action, badges, other documents, his personal wartime recollections, newspaper cuttings, postwar reunion photos, several maps, plus a small piece of the Decking from the Battleship Tirpitz. etc etc. Must be viewed !
