A Pair of Kashmiri Enamelled Brass Vases, 19th Century.
A finely matched pair of Kashmiri brass vases of rounded baluster form, richly decorated in polychrome enamel with dense scrolling floral and foliate ornament.
Each vase is divided into vertical lobed panels at the shoulder and lower body, filled with intricate arabesques in vibrant tones of cobalt blue, turquoise, emerald green, aubergine and ruby, heightened with gilt outlines. The central band features elaborate intertwining vegetal motifs arranged in symmetrical reserves, creating a rhythmic and harmonious surface design.
The short cylindrical necks and flared feet retain their warm brass finish, providing contrast to the vividly enamelled bodies. The decoration extends across the entire surface, with carefully delineated cartouches and repeating floral patterns typical of 19th-century Kashmiri metalwork.
