CRIMEAN WAR - AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED BY LORD RAGLAN (FAMOUS FOR HIS CHARGE OF THE LIGHT BRIGADE); 29 May 1855 autograph letter signed by "[Lord] Raglan", Commander of the British Forces in the Crimea headed "Before Sebastopol" and endorsed by him "Confidential" at the top; sent to the British interpreter "Lt. Colonel Simmons R.E." at Eupatoria (who was responsible for liasing with Omar Pasha, the famous Commander of much of the Turkish forces). Raglan asks Simmons to ask Omar Pasha for 3,000 Turkish soldiers to; "reinforce the Corps under Sir George Brown [Commander of the Light Division] ...if, without interfering with the... operations beyond the Tchernaya [River], his Highness could spare a Brigade... it would satisfy the object desired and manifest sufficiently his disposition to take part in anything contemplated to inflict a blow upon the enemy...". With Simmons's note that the request was refused by Omar Pasha. Raglan Campaign letters from the Crimea are now rare in private hands.Cross Reference: AUTOGRAPHS, MILITARY - CRIMEAN WAR
