Jerusalem Style Carved Hardwood Hexagonal Storage Box
A single hexagonal storage box or casket, attributed stylistically to the tradition of carved Jerusalem or Palestine olivewood boxes, though constructed of medium-toned hardwood. The body sits upon a conforming hexagonal base. The six vertical panels are decorated in deep relief carving, featuring a lower section of geometric, basket-weave lattice work and an upper section displaying stylized animal and avian motifs. The flat, hinged lid is also deeply carved with complex designs and includes a central brass ring handle. The box is fitted with rustic brass hardware, including functional hinges, two ornamental side ring pulls, and two opposing decorative latch hasps attached to the lid and body. The interior is hollow and unlined.
