AN IZNIK BLUE AND WHITE POTTERY TILE, TURKEY, 17TH CENTURY
of square form, decorated in cobalt-blue, turquoise and black outline on a white ground with flowerhead to centre with eight radial posies extending to larger peonies and lotuses, interconnected with foliate tendrils with adjoining saz leaves.
Tiles of a similar composition and colour scheme are seen within the Sünnet odasñ, or 'Circumcision Room', in the fourth courtyard of the Topkapñ Palace, Istanbul, as well as next door in the Baghdad Pavilion.
