Fees

A Chinese Jian sword, 19th century, the horn hilt with gilt metal overlay mounts with lattice work, foliate scrolls and taotie mask designs, slender triple fullered steel blade, the scabbard silk and gilt metal mounted with moths and insects, blade 43.5cm long, 61m long overall

More Information

The sword shows age-related wear and tarnishing to the blade. The grip shows rubbing to the gilt finish of the metal mounts. The lattice grip shows a possible missing tang to one side and a small length of raised wire detail (approximately 3mm long) to the other. The scabbard shows several dents to the tip, rubbing to the gilt finish throughout, and wear to the silk panel. The silk panel also pierced brass strip adornments to the top and bottom edges. These are slightly distorted, with one showing a loss of approximately 10mm, and may be later additions.
