Tanzanite is a rare blue to violet gemstone discovered in northern Tanzania in 1967, near Mount Kilimanjaro, and is found in only one small mining area in the world. It is a variety of the mineral zoisite and became internationally famous after Tiffany & Co. promoted it under the name “tanzanite,” helping turn it into one of the most recognised modern gemstones. Prized for its rich colour and rarity, tanzanite has since become especially popular in fine jewellery and is often associated with luxury and collectors.
