SCOTTISH TPOs - GALLOWAY S.C., CARLISLE & AYR S.C.: 1872-1950 group of cards/covers with Galloway or Carlisle-Ayr Sorting Carriage cds's incl. 1912 PPC from Larne, N.I. to Canada, underpaid ½d and attracting Liverpool Tax mark & h/s "2" along with Canadian 2c Postage Due stamp. Stamp is cancelled by single ring "GALLOWAY SORTING CARRIAGE" cds. Also, Jan. 1903 cover ex Bradford to Ayr with, on reverse, the rare single ring "CARLISLE & AYR.S.T./D/JA 23/03" (Wilson records only 4 known); 1881 env. to Linlithgow with 1d lilac cancelled by "CARLISLE & AYR/SORTING TENDER/B/NO 13/81" cds, scarce so early. Later covers showing "R.S.C." or "S.C." type cancels. We note 1924 Brit. Empire Exhib. latter card with "DOWN SPECIAL/29 AU/24/TPO" cancel.
