Amended description - An 18th Century red chinoiserie and gilt lacquer painted longcase clock, with eight day movement striking on a bell, the 12 inch brass dial with subsidiary dial and date aperture signed William Kipling, London, with caddy top and gilt ball finials over a long trunk door detailed with figures, buildings and a swan, on stepped canted plinth base, some slight damage and later repairs height 232cm.

More Information

Amended condition report - The casework is generally in good condition, but there are some patches of wear and scuffing. The gilt paintwork is bright and may be later. The finish to the lacquer is glossy, almost like a re-varnished finish. The seatboard has been replaced and has been packed slightly to either side, indicating that the movement may have been 'married' to the case. There is a winder, pendulum and a pair of weights present.
