1951 Bentley Mark VI, 4250cc. Registration number FCX 986. Chassis number B380 LJ. Engine number B190L.
Sold with the V5C, V5, MOT's from 1994 - 2011, various receipts for work.
Introduced in 1946, the Bentley Mark VI was the first post-war Bentley of Rolls-Royce design. The first Bentley Mark VI was delivered to its owner in September 1946, 16 months after VE Day. It was powered by a new 4.3-litre F-head six-cylinder engine featuring overhead intake, side-mounted exhaust valves, and an aluminium alloy cylinder head.
The Mark VI was also the first Bentley with standard factory-designed bodywork built by the Pressed Steel Company, of Oxford, with ex-Gurney Nutting Chief Designer John Blatchley applying the refined detailing. The bodies were fitted to the chassis and trimmed and painted to a standard that rivalled the best coachbuilders. Custom coachwork, remained available at the buyer’s discretion.
The company didn’t disclose the car’s power output but a number of road tests achieved top speeds very close to 100mph. All MK VI Bentleys were fitted with a four speed manual transmission with the gear lever on the right of the driver.
FCX was supplied by Rippon Brothers of Yorkshire and had only two owners before our father/son combination bought it in 1994 from Arnold Jones of Bentley Cottage, Bentley Square.
Since then it has been very well maintained with a full silver over black respray in 2012, the rear axle has been rebuilt with a higher 3.07 ratio, the engine has had a top end overhaul, original tool kit in the tray, new water pump and a stainless steel exhaust fitted. The brakes have recently been overhauled with a reconditioned master cylinder, hoses and rebuilt slave cylinders, all parts are from Flying Spur. The original interior has mellowed very nicely.
During our vendors custodianship the mileage has risen from 4,298 to the current 23,003. It has been used mainly for Continental Bentley Drivers Club road trips.
There are several spares, including a petrol tank, included with the car, it is believed that the tool tray is complete in the car but the key for the tray has been lost.
It was driven some 60 miles to our saleroom.
